Kate Chopin Gives a Womans Voice to Realism Essay example
Kate Chopin Gives a Womans Voice to Realism Kate Chopin succeeded in giving a womans voice to realism. While doing this she sacrificed her career. This seems to be a higher order of feminism than repeating the story of a woman as victim...Kate Chopin gives her female protagonist the central role, normally reserved for the man, in a meditation on identity and culture, consciousness, and art. (Robinson 3) The role of woman in the society Chopin creates is of special interest and relevance. (Robinson 6) Introduction to Kate Chopin Before Kate Chopin came onto the writing scene, women had an insignificant role in society. (Allen 54) The main character is Edna Pontiellier. A rather handsome woman. Her face was captivating by reason of a certain frankness of expression and a contradictory subtle play of features. Her manner was engaging. (Chopin 4) Unlike many other women characters of that time. Edna smoked, and often took walks along the beach, unescorted. That was something most women would never be caught doing. Kate Chopin created and unforgettable character that other women writers of that time would seldom create or write about.(Allen 23) Edna Pontiellier is a happily married woman in the beginning of the novel. She is living in a rich New Orleans neighborhood. She is somewhat of an outcast because she does unconventional things. Eventhough she is married and is supposed to be with her husband, she is often seen with another young man. This character is Robert Leburn. The more time Edna spends with Robert, the more she becomes attached. Other characters in this novel openly speculate what is going on between these two. As the novel continues, Edna begins her awakening. She realizes that she is falling in love with Robert. She also feels much stronger as an independent woman. As the novel draws to a close, Edna and Robert confess their love for eachother. Essay about Mulit-Store Model of Memory vs. Working Memory...
Compare and contrast the multi-store model of memory with the working memory model. This essay will firstly briefly describe the theories and important facts about the original multi-store model of memory (MSM) and the working memory model (WMM). This essay will then evaluate the key studies within these two models and explain the strengths and weaknesses of the main theories. The final part of this essay will be to examine the similarities and differences between the two models. The first issue that needs to be addressed however is what exactly is memory? ââ¬Å" Without memory we would be servants of the moment, with nothing but our innate reflexes to help us deal with the world. There would be no language, no art, no science, noâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The existence of sensory memory was proven by Sperling (1960), in this experiment Sperling discovered that after showing the participants a series of letters for less than a second they where then asked to recall as many letters as possible but on average they only could recall about 36%. According to Lloyd et al (1984) about 5% of all of a persons memories that are stored in their sensory memory are transferred to their short-term memory. The short-term memory allows a person to store the information for long enough for it to be used, the short-term memory can also be called the working memory however this term later came to have a different meaning. The short-term memory however only has a limited capacity to store information; Miller (1956) claims that in order to save space in a personââ¬â¢s short-term memory they chunk information together but despite this space saving the short-term memory can only hold seven plus or minus two of these chunks of information. According to Atkinson and Shiffrin (1971) this information can be stored unaided for about 15-30 seconds, this time frame can be extended by rehearsal. It is commonly accepted that a personââ¬â¢s long-term memory has an unlimited capacity to store information; this information can effectively be stored for the persons entire life if needed. Bower (1975) claims that among other information that is stored within a personââ¬â¢s long-term memory are five key pieces of information. ââ¬Å" A spatial model of the world

Summer in Tulum free essay sample
Last summer in Cancun, I was bored so I convinced my family that we should go to Tulum. Tulum with its beautiful days and tropical weather all year round, where the sun is almost always out, where the sea is turquoise blue, and where the sea wind blows gently and warm but still refreshing. A place where some will dream to be. A place where the mysterious but ingenious Mayas habited a long time ago, and were they built a beautiful city of rock next to the beach, where they would observe the sea and the stars. Today, from my grandfatherââ¬â¢s house I am able to look at the ruins. I am there sitting at the beach but this is a special beach for me, far away from big hotels and people, itââ¬â¢s like if you had your private beach, a private beach in one of the most beautiful places in the world. We will write a custom essay sample on Summer in Tulum or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Besides being a beautiful and quiet beach there is something special about this place, there is a place that we call ââ¬Å"caletaâ⬠. This place is a part of the sea right next to the beach, a place rounded by rocks and with an entrance to the sea, a place where the water is sweet and you can open your eyes and there is no salt to hurt your eyes, this place is perfect for swimming, the water is a little colder than the sea beside it but never to cold it is perfect for the hot weather. The nature in Tulum is gorgeous and diverse with the different ecosystems like the ââ¬Å"cenotesâ⬠, the jungles, the reefs. The town of Tulum is not too far away from my grandfatherââ¬â¢s house. I like the town just the way it is right now; without any tall buildings, with a slow and tranquil rhythm, with abundant nature, not too industrialized, without fast-food restaurants and franchises. I especially like this place at night when the small restaurants with their unique and different st yles and delicious food and abundance of people from different places, it is just a place where I love to be. Because it is a small town at night you can observe a lot of stars. The people in the town are usually very kind and will always try to make you feel good and make sure you are enjoying the town. I like Tulum when I go with my family or when I go with my friends. I love spending time with my family and more when it is in such a wonderful place. I love to go there every time I am in Cancun it is just an hour an a half drive to a place that makes me feel so happy and in peace.

Writer#8217;s Manual for Research Paper on Child Development
Writer#8217;s Manual for Research Paper on Child Development Writing a research paper is not as daunting as some people like to believe. If you have the required information, you can create a compelling paper in no time. And to be able to do so, you need to learn the methods and techniques that outline an exemplary research paper. However, knowing how a research paper is written alone is not really that beneficial. To compose a perfect research paper on child development, you have to read our previous two guides i.e. 10 facts for a research paper on child development and 20 child development research paper topics. These two guidelines will play a vital role in allowing you to write quickly and effectively ââ¬â leaving you worry free at the time of need. Composing an Attractive Title A title is what really attracts your audience to read your research paper. It is the first thing they will notice about it. You should compose a persuasive title by providing insights to what the reader is going to find inside the paper. You should also try to indicate the variables, both independent and dependent ones. Writing the Abstract The abstract, in general terms, is a brief summary of your content in your research paper. It contains your research question, hypothesis (if there is any) and the discoveries along with the studies you have done on that particular topic. You can also discuss the resources and samples that youââ¬â¢ll use in your paper. Composing the Introduction of Your Paper Introduction is one of the most important paragraphs of your research paper. If your title is attractive, but your introduction isnââ¬â¢t convincing, the reader would not want to read further. To compel the reader to read further, you have to speak clearly. Tell your readers about the problem youââ¬â¢ll be discussing. Describe the research that you did on the problem or topic and sprinkle some information on sources and evidence that support your research and point of view. Concluding everything very briefly would allow the reader to know whatââ¬â¢s coming in the next paragraphs and heââ¬â¢ll be interested to read it further. To refine the introduction even further, you have to define issues and problems that would later lead to you research. Explain the variables (independent and dependent) of your research/experiment. Define why you were eager to study this phenomenon in the first place and add some little personal touch to it while describing it. You can also include the hypothesis right after that. Plus, you can define some significant concepts that will be mentioned in your paper but itââ¬â¢s considered optional. Finally, donââ¬â¢t forget to conclude your introduction with a clear and concise delimitation focus. Writing the Body of Your Research Paper Once you have gone through the beginning, itââ¬â¢s time that you start working on the main body of your paper. These paragraphs should be properly organized and must be full of information. Each paragraph should only talk about a particular research that you have done with proper source. Concluding the Paper with Documentation Documenting the sources in your research paper is necessary because it clarifies that your research is original and authentic and it is not a copied version of the sources you used. It also helps the reader know that you have a good understanding of the topic that you have chosen to research on. And of course, if you forget to include the documentation then your research may be suspected as plagiarized content. Donââ¬â¢t forget to include the bibliography of the sources that you have use. Itââ¬â¢s a must to let readers know that your research is authentic and has been borrowed from some credible sources. In other words, it helps define your research as an unbiased version of your opinion, based mostly on facts and nothing else. Thatââ¬â¢s about it! Once you have concluded the paper. Itââ¬â¢s time to take a break. Once reenergized, go through your paper and correct mistakes to have a perfect output. Remove parts that might seem a bit excessive, add information that would make your paper better. Donââ¬â¢t forget to look for outline mistakes and grammatical errors and consider revising again. The more you revise, the better your research paper would become. Now youââ¬â¢re reading to write an exemplary research paper on child development. Be sure to read our first and second guide as well, if you havenââ¬â¢t already. Happy writing!

The Capital Asset Pricing Model is a very useful model and it is used Essay
The Capital Asset Pricing Model is a very useful model and it is used widely in the industry even though it is based on very strong assumptions. Discuss in the light of recent developments in the area - Essay Example recent developments to see if it can be considered a credible and reliable model for asset pricing and forecasting for todayââ¬â¢s dynamic business environment. The CAPM is seen as an asset pricing method which gives a theoretical determination of the required rate of return of an asset, given the condition that the asset is being added to an existing well-diversified portfolio (Berk, 1995). This means that estimating the rate of return of an asset based on the CAPM requires that the asset in question will not be an independent asset being invested but part of a portfolio considered to be well-diversified. Again, Fama & French (2002) stressed that the use of CAPM in asset pricing must be based on the use of assets which are considered non-sensitive to non-diversified risks which come as either systematic risk or market risk. In short, the asset must be a risk-free asset which guarantees the repayment of interest and principal with absolute certainty (Banz, 1981). There are several determinants and variables used in the calculation of CAPM and hence the CAPM formula. There are generally traditional and modified formulas for CAPM but this pap er is limited to the use of the traditional formula. Fama & French (1992) stressed that for CAPM usage, it is important that the expected return on the capital asset E(Ri), which can only be known when the risk-free rate of interest Rf, sensitivity of the expected excess asset or beta ßi, expected return of the market E(Rm), and market premium E(Rm) ââ¬â Rf are all known. With these known, it is possible to obtain the CAPM given as For the actual applicability of the equation and SML to function, there are very important assumptions that must hold. In all, CAPM makes use of nine assumptions which are briefly analysed as follows. The first is that investors aim to maximise economic utilities. Based on this assumption, investors would only want to go into investments that have asset quantities that are known and fixed so that the
